CONDITIONS OF PLAY

KZNCB WOMEN’S & MEN’S OPEN AND SENIOR SINGLES

The Tournament will be played under the Laws of the Sport of Bowls and should any point arise which is not covered by the foregoing, the decision of the Tournament Committee shall be final and binding.

FORMAT OF PLAY – ZONES

The championships shall be played in sections of three on a league system. The section winners will qualify to play on a knock out basis. If the entry is six or less players a round robin will be played. In the event of a player withdrawing for any reason after the commencement of the tournament all relevant results will be expunged.

Before the start of each game two trial ends will be permitted.

Knockout

Names of section winners to be drawn out of a hat.

Where applicable winners of the sections of three will play in the prelim round.

The Winners and Runners-up will qualify to play in the KCNCB play-offs.

FORMAT – KZNCB

The championships shall be played on the Sectional Play System consisting of a section of six women and a section of six men.

The winner and the runner-up of each of the three Zones shall qualify.

If the winner or runner-up in a Zone can not play the next in line in that Zone shall qualify.

If a Zone can not field a player or players the hosting Zone shall make up the number of players.

DETERMINATION OF THE WINNER

The winner of each match shall be the player first scoring

21 shots. No shots in excess of 21 will be recorded.

One point will be awarded for each match won.

At the end of the Sectional Play the winner shall be the player with the highest number of points. If two players tie with equal points, the winner shall be determined on points and the highest net score obtained during the sectional play.   

INTERRUPTION OF PLAY

A game in progress may be stopped on account of darkness, weather conditions, or any other valid reason, by the Tournament Committee.

Technical Officials shall not be responsible to call off players during lightning/thunderstorm activity, unless the players have made an appeal.

DEFAULT OR WITHDRAWAL

If, 30 minutes after the scheduled start time for a game, a player is absent, the defaulting player will forfeit the game to his/her opponent. The scores of the defaulting player will be expunged.

Should a player withdraw at any time for any reason acceptable by the Tournament Committee, after the commencement of the tournament, all relevant results of the player will be expunged.

INCLEMENT WEATHER DURING DISTRICT PLAY-OFFS

If play is stopped because of inclement weather a result would be determined after the completion of 3 (three) rounds.

Should the Tournament be completely rained out, an alternative date will be arranged.

RESTRICTING THE MOVEMENT OF PLAYERS DURING PLAY.

In the interest of speeding up play, a player may only go to the head after delivery of their third and fourth bowls, unless permission has been requested and given by the marker.

Practice: A player not playing for whatever reason but due to play in the next round may practise on any rink allocated by the Controlling Body.

Warm up. A player may warm up before any game, time allowing and with approval of the Controlling Body.

The warm up should be in the opposite direction of expected play. Warm up should not be deliberate play and no target such as a jack may be used, but bowls may be delivered to enable the player to warm/loosen up.

No player should on any day of the championship play on the same rink.

CELLULAR PHONES, ALCOHAL AND SMOKING

The use of cellular phones and the consumption of alcoholic beverages by players or Technical Officials on the greens during any playing session are prohibited. All cellular phones must be switched off whilst play is in progress. Smoking will not be permitted on the green or within two metres from the green.
